Home Theater Seating Review

Do you have to constantly pause the DVD to get your tomato juice from the kitchen benchtop because there is no place to put your drink without fear of spilling it on your white carpet? And does your back suffer terribly even only after 30 minutes of watching your favorite sitcom?

Home theater systems and home theater seating - the suburban preoccupation of the decade

If youve answered yes to any of the questions above, then despair no more. In the past five years or so, home theater seats have surpassed the comfort and support provided by the traditional movie theater seat.

Home theater seating can range from actual movie theater seats with beverage holders to more plush reclining club chairs and home theater loungers with footrests and built in wireless bass audio.

But how do you choose a good home theater seating? Below are some tips on how to choose a home theater seating that is just right for you.

Tips on how to choose the right home theater seating

1. The first thing to ask yourself is how many will you normally seat?

- If you prefer your home viewing to be strictly limited to yourself and your only daughter, then you will only need a seating for a small group of three.

- If you are planning to invite the whole neighborhood, then you may need to create one or more rows of grouped seating just like in a real theater. You can choose to have single seats carefully placed in your home entertainment or rumpus room or build a group of 2, 3 or 4 chairs.

2. The second and equally important question is will your current home entertainment or rumpus room have space enough for your home theater seating plan? It would be wise to allocate a room or part of a room that is spacious enough for your home entertainment area. Or if you have the budget and the inclination - you may want to add a special room for this specific purpose.

3. A very important priority in any home theater seating is comfort as you may need to be seated for an average of 90 to 120 minutes for a full length feature movie. Answering the following questions may help you to judge whether the home theater seating you are choosing will give you the level of comfort that you need.

- Does the footrest extend before the backrest reclines? This is important so that your body remains supported and your movie viewing and line of sight is kept intact.

- Are the armrests wide enough to rest your arms and provide the right balance?

- Does the seat and back offer both firmness and flexibility? Does the seat provide high density foam cushions to provide both comfort and back support?

- Does it provide full support from head to toe?

4. What style of home theater seating will fit your decor? After all, theater seats should be part of the home theater and should enhance its overall decor. Do you want an upholstered home theater seating or do you want to see some of the timbers natural woodgrain enlivened by an oil finish?

Do you want supple, luxurious leather or the warm caress of velvet? What colors complement your decor - the girly-cute pink of custard; the regal low-maintenance ruby of pomegranate or the uptown classy brown of biscuit?

5. Was the home theater seating constructed using techniques that have been proven to result in stronger and more durable loungers and seats that can withstand everyday use, such as using kiln-dried hardwood base frames and cushions made of high density 2-lb foam.

6. Last but not least, how much do you want to spend for your home theater seating? Whatever your budget, there seems to be a home theater seating for everyones fancy:

- whether its the $4,700 three-seater Rodeo Leather Lounge with built in wireless bass shaker, recliner, footrest and wide armrest rolls for the ultimate in home theater experience,

- a vintage movie theater seat which had its previous home from a local movie house and which youve just bid successfully on ebay for $99,

- or somewhere in between.

Digital Camcorders Review

Reviewers say there are some drawbacks to recording straight to DVDs. Because of frustrating incompatibilities between the various DVD formats and DVD editing software, reviews say you shouldnt plan to do much editing on your computer. In addition, although you can select different quality levels to maximize storage on a mini DVD disc, youll only be able to record about twenty minutes of top-quality footage.

Theres no question that digital camcorders will eventually be the only camcorders available. Still, reviewers express surprise at the resilience of analog models, which still fit the bill for those who dont own computers and just want a simple, inexpensive VHS-compatible camera.

This Sony digital camcorder records to miniature DVD discs, and once finalized, the discs are immediately playable in most home DVD players. Reviews say the Sony DVR-DVD403 is easily the best DVD camcorder, with image quality that competes with the best mini DV camcorders, such as the Panasonic PV-GS250 below.

While recording to mini DVDs is convenient, its not as easy to edit footage on a computer, so the Sony is best for those who dont care much about editing their video. Since the Sony doesnt have many manual features, the Panasonic is better for those who like to fiddle with settings.

Reviews say image quality is comparable between this Panasonic mini DV camcorder and the Sony DVD camcorder above. Both get high scores in reviews, but the Panasonic records to inexpensive mini DV tapes, and the DV format is much easier to edit on a computer than the Sonys MPEG -2 format.

Plus, the Panasonic has a bunch of features missing on the Sony, like a remote control, manual focus ring, an accessory shoe for an external flash unit, optical image stabilization and a voice recorder for narration. The whole package is comfortable to hold, with well-placed controls.

Canon isnt known for making big innovations when it comes to camcorders; rather, reviews say Canon consistently and quietly offers sturdy, reliable, consistently good video cameras. The Canon Elura 90 gets high scores for image quality (though it falls a bit behind the Sony and Panasonic above), and has a bunch of useful, basic features, like a 20X optical zoom, digital image stabilization, responsive autofocus and intuitive menus. If you want something more than the very cheapest camcorder, but dont need something as cutting edge as the Sony or Panasonic above, the Canon Elura 90 is a great value.

This is one of the cheapest miniDV digital camcorders you can buy, and reviewers say the Panasonic outclasses similarly priced camcorders from Sony and JVC. It performs much better in low light than its budget competition. Included are a handful of manual controls. Although reviews say the Panasonic camcorders menus can be a bit clunky, this is the best cheap digital camcorder youll find, with better features and performance than its competitors.

The majority of digital camcorders are DV camcorders, which record video to widely available DV tapes. Some new models, however, are looking to push tape into obsolescence. A small handful of digital video cameras can record to memory cards or an internal hard drive. Still others record to miniature DVD discs called mini DVD.

Easy DVD Burning

There are two necessary components in order to copy a DVD, the hardware and software. The hardware is a DVD burner which can be internal or external. It is now very common to find an internal DVD burner on most new computers. For users with older computers an external DVD burner can be purchased through most office supply stores and just about all computer stores. External DVD hardware is relatively inexpensive and is a somewhat small unit that would be placed next to the users computer and is usually connected via a USB cable and port.

As far as the software is concerned, users have many choices depending on what type of DVD they want to copy. DVD copy software can also be purchased online or your local computer store, and in many cases the DVD burner hardware will also include the necessary software. However, if the user wants to make backup copies of DVD movies, they will, more than likely have to purchase this type of software online.

There are several benefits of owning DVD burner hardware. Its great to be able to burn a DVD of your childs latest karate tournament or big game and send a copy to close relatives and keep in touch. With DVD burner hardware you can make a backup copy of a DVD that you dont want to loose. Another benefit is that DVD burners are generally easy to use.

If you have been putting off the purchase of DVD burner hardware, with prices decreasing, now may be the perfect time to upgrade to a new computer with an internal DVD burner or to invest in an external DVD burner. Once you see how easy it can be to copy DVDs you may just become the DVD copy expert in your family.
