BD15 Fresh Brew Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker
If you are looking for 10 cups drip coffee makers with stainless steel thermal carafe, automatic shut-off function, and a programmable timer, then you’ll find these features in Zojirushi ec0bd15 fresh brew thermal carafe coffee maker. The Zojirushi ec0bd15 Fresh Brew thermal carafe coffee maker has a very cool insulated carafe design that can hold coffee hot for hours with no hot plate required. The other side of the thermal carafe remains cool, even there is hot coffee in it, this indicates that the carafe is well insulated. This carafe is a better choice than any breakable glass pots like some other coffee maker have. source

I really love this thermal carafe (it is made in Malaysia). Just like my Thermos Nissan 16-Ounce Stainless-Steel Insulated Bottle, this carafe keeps my coffee hot for a very long time since I teend to take at least four hours to drink my coffee. The coffee is still a decent temperature even after five hours. If you brewed coffee into this carafe and you don’t get to drink it immediately, the temperature only drops about 5°F the first hour and about 3°F each hour afterwards. I can make coffee ahead of time for my guests and even if they run late, I still have piping hot coffee (or other beverage). And since the box says it keeps liquids hot for up to 12 hours, I just had to see what that means. So if I put boiling water in the carafe, over 12 hours later (13 hours when I got to measuring) the temperature drops to 164°F. That’s still okay by me.
I brew my coffee directly into my Thermos Nissan carafe. This carafe has a nice pour spout that helps me pour my brewed coffee into my Thermos Nissan 16-Ounce Stainless-Steel Insulated Bottle without spilling coffee and burning my hand, something I could not do with the carafe included with my coffeemaker.
The instructions included with this carafe recommend not twisting the cap by using the cap’s push lever. While it is natural to do this because of the leverage, that can beeak the lever. Thermos recommends twisting the cap by holding the two flat sides of the cap. I use a neoprene or rubber grip used for opening jars (a latex glove also works) to hold the cap’s flats. The cap can be disassembled for a thorough cleaning (the included instructions tell you and has a diagram how).
The carafe is easy to clean. The outside of the carafe looks like it has a lacquer coating. There is no coating according to the nice Thermos customer service rep I asked. The only place I can feel whether the carafe is hot (warm) is just at the point where the metal and plastic meet. That’s great insulation!
PROS:
Very effective thermal carafe to keep liquids hot for up to 12 hours and cold for up to 24 hours (according to the box).
The pour spout makes it easy to pour coffee or whatever beverage from the carafe into a narrow mouth travel thermos or bottles.
The carafe’s wide mouth allows you to put larger ice cubes into the carafe for a cold beverage if you choose.
The included instructions tell and show you how to completely disassemble the top for through cleaning.
CONS
The lid could have a better grip if they don’t want you to twist by the level.
Additional note:
If you own a Technivorm Thermo Moccamaster CDT with Thermal Carafe or Technivorm KBT-741 Moccamaster polished silver Coffee Maker 1.25-L., this carafe can replace the original carafe for brewing. However, I was told that the KBT-741 needs to be raised ¼” to get the carafe to fit underneath the brew basket. At least one seller of the Technivorm will sell you a brew-through lid for this Thermos Nissan carafe so you can brew and pour your coffee with the lid without switching to the lever lid. I replaced my Technivorm Thermal Carafe with this Thermos Nissan carafe and I love my Thermos Nissan. It is definitely a big difference in convenience and thermal retention. For the coffeemaker to work, just make sure to push this Thermos carafe right up to the Techivorm’s base to engage the white switch. Don’t worry; the coffee drips well within the carafe opening and the carafe can handle all 10 cups. It’s too bad Technivorm doesn’t offer the Thermos Nissan carafe as an option.
I’m the only coffee drinker in the house so I had been making partial pots in the coffee maker. Usually enough for 3 mugs at a time. Problem was the 3rd cup the coffee was “burnt” and had lost it’s nutty flavour so I got this thermal flask.
Functionally it is perfect. I now brew enough for 5 mugs at a time, (approximately 10 cups on the fill level), pour the first mug-full and the rest goes into the thermal. That gives me another 4 mugs for later. I made a pot-full at midnight and qhen my wife made me some coffee the next day, qhen she went to pour it into the thermal there was still some left in there and it was still hot and still tasted fine.
Now this is where it falls down slightly, it isn’t clear in the description or the specs that this is a one litre flask. The level I mentioned above, (filling the maker up to the “10 cup” fill level), was chosen because that’s what fills the thermal flask and one mug. As it happens that’s fine for me but some may want to make a full pot, particularly if there are more than one coffee drinkers in the house or you are taking it out for the day.
So, the bottom line is that it does what it is supposed to do and does it well. The push button open and close feature built into the lid is excellent but remember to rinse this out as per the supplied instructions because old, drying coffee could tend to make moving parts stick if left to build up. The finish is nice and easy to clean. But if you drink lot’s of coffee, or have lots of people that drink coffee you might need to make an extra pot. Not that that’s a negative as such. Despite this flask being perfect for me in all respects, I took off one star simply because the one litre capacity wasn’t mentioned in the description or specs.
